Tequila for the holidays
Here we are amidst another holiday season and people everywhere are racking their brains trying to think of the perfect gift for their loved ones. If you’re like me, the holidays mean a lot of family time, food and drink. I always look forward to bringing something unexpected for my family and friends to drink every year.
Instead of sipping aged whiskies after dinner this year, it’s going to be aged tequila. More specifically, Gran Patron Tequila. I know what you are thinking…sipping on tequila? There are some extra special ones out there that you should consider…
History of Patron
Tequila has been a rich part of Mexico’s history for generations and Patron continues to add to that tradition. Patron was launched in 1989 by John Paul DeJoria and Martin Crowley with the goal to bring ultra-premium tequila to the global market. Their love of tequila and desire to create the best tequila in the world lead them to the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. There they found tequila industry veteran Francisco Alcaraz and asked him to produce the most extraordinary, highest-quality 100 percent agave tequila possible. Until this time the ultra-premium luxury tequila spirits category did not exist.
Tequila Gift Idea: Gran Patron Tequila is a Luxurious One
To communicate the quality of the liquid inside, the founders designed a handmade bottle, created from recycled glass topped with a natural roundhead cork. The bottle is decorated with a ribbon and wrapped in tissue paper before being hand packed in its distinct box.
To this day, each bottle is still from recycled glass and hand-numbered, creating a further connection between the interior and exterior as true works of art. John Paul and Martin’s bottle and packaging presented Tequila Patron as a gift to be shared amongst friends.
To expand on its newly created ultra-premium tequila category they went a step further and created the Gran Patron line. There are currently three marks within the line, which is created from the best agave of the harvest. They are uniquely and beautifully packaged and represent the very best of what Patron has to offer.
Gran Patron Platinum is triple distilled for extraordinary smoothness, and rested in oak to provide full bodied flavor. Gran Patron Burdeos is a limited production anejo aged in American and French oak. It is then redistilled and racked in Bordeaux wine barrels giving it a velvety smooth finish. And last but not least, my personal favorite is Gran Patron Piedra. Piedra means “stone” and is aged four years in French Allier oak and New American Oak. It is Patrons first extra anejo and drinks a lot like a fine scotch.
The holidays are all about giving to others and spending time with your friends and family. Gran Patron makes for a great gift and is excellent to be shared with those closest to you. They are eloquently packaged and are certain to pique people’s curiosities. I strongly encourage you to do something a little something different this holiday season. Cheers!
